i'm very thankful that i joined hcband because i enjoy band pieces & i've learnt a lot of musical thingies under leng and from fellow bandmates (: of course the main reason why i chose band over other ccas like choir was because i knew that the people in band are friends worthy of knowing and i was right! :D (im not slamming other ccas its just that ppl in band are generally nice in that special way if you know what i mean haha)

yupp im glad i've had the opportunity to be sectionmates & friends with each and everyone of you (:
ls: preying mantis :D thank you for the sax tips (oh my sounds wrong) and no thank you for draining the band fund with your welfare stuff haha xD okay kidding about the latter :P i'll not forget your little pinky for sometime, it never fails to make me laugh :D

Whee SYF is over, but our friendship will never be okay? (: We have worked hard as a section, during full band, sectionals with dear afatt and individuals by the roadside! We have come so far, that it feels really sad to have it end like that.

Thank you all for making these 2 years the best ever, in terms of section. Best section! (: I would never have improved so much without the help and encouragement from you guys, and esp Liangsai who took time off to tutor me. Thanks again! (:

hello everyone!

I know this is quite a late reply compared to most of our sax partners. I need time to recollect my thoughts. But then its still earlier then judy! =)

K. Where shall I start? 6 years of band life is finally coming to an end. For me, this 6 years in band has been the most awesome 6 years i spent in my entire life. Band people, especially my sax partners are also the most amazing bunch of ppl i have ever met. Sometimes, its just strikes me how any of this could have changed just like that. What if back in high school, Samuel didn't pick me, yongjie and yikun to join the saxas becaz we were weird in a certain aspect? What if yongjie got into his 1st choice of ec-cube? What if yikun joined clarinet? Of course, what if there wasn't our highly capable and retarded seniors like junjie, ernest, khaiboon, melvin, jianmin? Without them, high school saxa could have never become the best section. Years toil on. What if Mark didn't quit gymnastics? What if he joined another section? Then saxa would never have such a zai and lame sl! Speeding up to JC. What if Judy decided to join ge fang and never return? Who would be our most trusted treasurer then? What if we hadn't met boxplant? Then in whom do we trust? =( What if our juniors were totally different ppl?

In all these, i thank fate for bringing us together as sax partners. For if any of the above choices were made otherwise, we would not have been together. We would not have even know the existences of each other. How say would that be. I could go on to thank each and every single one of you for making my sax life so fulfilling and enoyable, but a thankyou here simply isn't enough to express what i feel towards you all. Be it a short acquantaince of month, to 6 years long of knowing each other, all i can say is that: you guys rock. Sax for life!

May 7th 2009 SYF marks my 4th SYF. The last one i'm gonna have. It also marks the last milestone that we senior sax partners have crossed. There will be no more. Like the end of a concert, there's always this feeling of euphoria and senselessness. But yet, when the curtain truly calls, I can't help but to feel a tinge of melancholy. Like the fullstop that's gonna be inserted no matter how many more lines of crap i write. My band life is going to end. With it, there's a hole in my heart that just can't be filled by anything else. I wish I could have done more, done much more. I wish i could have fully saviour each moment with you guys. I wish some people will shout encore. Yet, there shall be no encore. This is the end. As the curtains close, we will see each other for 1 last time. For the next time we meet again, we can't call each other by sax partner's anymore. We won't be able to see the box plant that we trust again.. as a section. For the next time we meet, everything will be different.

Some of you lucky ones will still get to be sax partners for 1 more year. i hope you will truly enjoy the experience like i did. I remember sometimes this time, we spent weeks to buy presents for seniors for farewell (hint to juniors!!). Soon, you all will be doing the same. Soon, your curtain call will come. Good luck have fun. =)

Lastly, i just want to say a big big big thank you to everyone in saxas. Lets meet up and have sax again soon ya!

syf is finally over *sobs* and i’ve finally gotten a GOLD for syf thats so cool woohooo! :D hymn to the sun and overture no.1 shall be two of the most important songs in my life haha and i will never forget the date 7 May 2009!!

and i wanna thank u all for this awesumest experience coolsh!t who’s one of our “ownage imba totally-off-the-chart-nice MWOS who taught me many things like not to bite too hard and stuff. mark who gave me higher scores for auditions than luther and showed me that life goes on with cactus. judy who always hydrates me with her purple bottle and sings hymn damn loud and lets me play with blue cookie monster. yikun who always make fun of me and waves randomly and sends me songs like cuppycake. hongguang who helped me cheat for gp test and helped me borrow instru frm high sch for syf. Cynthia who kinda stones with me sometimes and her profile is one of the sources i find hatchlings lol. yongjie who can blow titanic tune by blowing into his cupped hands and whom i got to eat dinner with twice. Wesley who always lends me his ipod which has many weird songs. and junjie who has been my bari bari nice senior for the 5th year running yeahhh!

Although its only been about two and a half months that i’ve known some of u and i haven gotten to know all of u very well yet (well i guess there isn’t much chance left =X) but in this v v v short period of time i discovered hc saxas section is really a bunch of smart (almost everybody takes H3 and there’s an SMTP too), fun and special people and its been really nice knowing u all! :D

darn sad that we’re not gonna have a capriccio concert this year (isn’t it an annual thing ><) so syf is the first and last major event i will have with j2s and its ALREADY OVER =( *bawwwls*
but i’ll definitely remember all the seniors and im gonna miss u all damn alot when u all officially step down in june...time flies yahh X( we’re gonna be so lonely once u all are gone...3 people =/= a section -.- we’ll be like playing one per part and there wun even be a bari anymore >< SIGHHH

i cant visualise just 3 ppl sitting in the second row in the band room so i really really wish that there will be alot alot of juniors next year to fill up all the vacant seats in the second row! (preferably more girls this time :D

yay! it's friday the 13th! i shall share some super useful info:

since this blog is quite dead, i shall update a bit...

concert over liao, so, it's time for us to really really go back to the basics!
actually, if you try surfing any sax site, and look for advice on daily practice, everyone will say scales, long tones, etc

scales
so, we should really practice our scales(starting from every note of Bb scale), play through the whole range of the sax, play slow and get it into muscle memory, then get faster
do intervals also
use all available alternate fingerings also

long tones
hmm, it may seems boring, but the fun part is listening to your own sound, try playing low C, and listen out for the overtones(the G octave and 5th higher), then you feel super shuang
anyway, practicing long tones is about listening, and changing the tone colour, trying out different sax positions(i mean tongue position, lip pressure etc)
also, can try imitating other instru sound(clarinet and trumpet seems the easiest)

ok, i know all of you will just dao this msg, but nevermind, i shall TRY to work on my basics, although it's only 1 year left...

today is a very special day, cause today is the day the new sl was elected...

it all started in the morning, junjie was mugging at kfc when junjie came, and the junjies sat together while the rest of the section took a walk, choosing their angel mortal gifts (actually only me), anyway, the saxa meeting turned into a saxa lunch,

last practice before capriccio XXIV is goneee.
quite an eventful day.
started off with a trio mugging at KAP.
namely kusimawodani, best tone and cool jj ^^
but according to reliable sources it was a session for the trio to fall asleep one after another. smart people like me (and mark as i found out later) decided to stay at home and sleep :D section lunch was at 1130! or so we all thought. our really punctual section ended up starting lunch at noon. i panicked about being a tad ~~late~~ early for nothing :P halfway thru lunch sharine received a fateful call from melvin, who was apparently in school. our friendly section decided to eat slowly while waiting for melvin to join us, hence the friendly me did not touch my coleslaw.

tick tock tick tock.

there was no sign of melvin o:

we dutifully continued waiting.

tick tock tick tock.

sharine decided to give him a call. and so it turns out that he was camping in school waiting for his zinger burger. oh well. poor me had to stuff coleslaw down. then we being responsible band members chionged back for band as it was running late. mmm yeah we walked at an incredible pace that was so agonising for poor me who just did napfa yesterday. ~~we were strolling, really :X~~ hmm? noo, i didn't say anything. *smiles (:*

now to the highlight of the day - section leader elections :D
rather simple process really. just write the name of the person who u think is capable of doing a good job as a section leader (: well of course some people like to be complicated and insist on drawing out the person. and soo mark wins with 60% of the votes, inclusive of mine. woahhh qiang ^^ oh apologies to guys in random islands who could not vote >< but well doubt the results would have been different.

danggggg i lost the photo i had of mark sleeping during band T.T
nvm i believe there will be many more oppurtunities for me to get such a photo, right mark? :D

ok since most dua pinkie started blogging abt our day from the beginning. i shall start from the end and work backwards.

today when i reached home and finished washing up it was midnite alrdy. but rewinding a bit to the time when we left kap. (aft the rest of the band pangseh-ed us to eat our fries with bbq sweet and sour sauce by ourselves) it was a teary farewell. every one of us were reluctant to part ways.

yongjie: zou ba.
liangsai: zou.

aft trekking thru king albert park we arrived at the kap bus stop. where yongjie and liangsai left the group for geng hao de di fang. immediately the average y chromosome count of the group declined.

yongjie: tai jian.

then junjie suddenly got interested in titanium. which has atomic number 22.
we headed for the fu4 jin4 railway track de bridge. where dani left us for home.
as we moved forward slowly. dani gradually zhuan-ed path to the right lane. the emptiness she felt in her heart as she left the group was significant thru her yan3 shen2.
in short. cynthia xim tia.

the sakura within erupts.

now let us go back in time a bit further.
to geng mei hao de shi guang.
where we played section games.

Section Game 1.
Kusumawardhani.
Instructions:
sit in a perfectly round circle of radius a.
assume ritual mode.
(say)
-slap thighs- -clap hands- kusumawardhani. kusumawardhani.
(following tempo strictly)
then you accelerando poco a poco and take turns with the kusumawardhani.

Section Game 1a.
Kusimawodani.
Instructions:
do the same as above.
however, since this is a chinese game, we must say ohmmmmmm before we begin.

Section Game 2.
The cross hand tap hand then eh got skip one game.
Instructions:
first you must cross hands.
then you take turns to tap like very shuang like tt.
if you super shuang, you can double tap.
then the previous person must hui tou shi an and go back in the other direction.
if you chao shuang, you can punch table.
hence skipping the nxt person's turn like skippy peanut butter.
Objective:
reverse turns to dani as far as possible.

Section Game 3.
Younger brother, younger brother younger brother younger brother younger brother, younger brother younger brother!
Instructions:
this game is actually a chinese physics game, but the title has been translated to english for universal reference.
they teach this game if you take h3 physics in chinese (wuli-nomics).
the aim is to poke other pples fingers to a cryptic tune and induce a current in translateral direction.
using fleming's left hand rule, we can find the direction of the induced current and hence induced force. so some pples fingers will feel the force and twitch.
sometimes, due to atmospheric inequilibrium, the magnetic field is changing. hence the force changes direction and other fingers will extra/spastic and twitch.
spastic must add finger, so then add finger.
not the kfc the fish finger tt one not nice one.

even further back now. as we journey to kap.
the bus passed by the legendary box plant.
not just a plant, but a plant..

since we were unable to capture its splendor on camera.
i drew a perfect likeness.
saxas.
the nxt time we meet..
we will go see the box plant.
for sure, the box plant will wait for tt day.
in box plant we trust.

[so anw, for nxt band prac.
we must do the intonation thing and scribble the oxidation state on top of the note.
maybe we can settle this during a sax session.
so lets have sectionals agn soon. (:]

Hello everyone! =)

Short pinky here! =) This is my first post also...so as to not pay the 5bucks @ the week that starts on a wednesday! =) Anywayz, i was requested to post about what happened today @ KAP.. so that we could all relive not so long ago (actually 1+ hrs ago) memories!!

k..Shall begin from the beginning...

After the usual boring lessons and tutorials, the happiest time of the day finally arrived, and that is having a section lunch!! xD k lar...actually, only mark, dani, yj ate, i was watching them eat prata and shaking the very shakable chair, trying to annoy dani...but she seems undisturbed..so i gave up ><. After that, we went to find the 2 who alwayz stick together! Yes! They are JUDY AND JUNJIE!!! k nvm...then we 'hurried' to salt, caz band prac starting soon. This afternoon's bandprac we did the most unachievable thing called tuning and intonation. So we did the intonation chart...anywayz, intonation srsly very impt...so we must prac hard and try to achieve perfect intonation soon! =) Then after intonation, we did abit of armenian dances..with onli 1 clarinet..so yea... Ohya! one impt thing to note is that YJ has been called upon by Mr LENG to first, take charge of the tuners, and second, distribute the intonation sheet! hmmm... can anyone infer anything from that?

K lets continue! After prac we had J1 dinner @ kap!! Whooo! Actually we suppse to split up to mingle more with the other J1 ppl but in the end, we fail... so must take note nxt time must try harder! >< =) Anyway, stoned for a while, as usual, b4 buying food. "Ohmmmm.." Spammed mayo as dani suggested, and we DID spam!

Then after that, stoned abit more..judy seemed superr tired n sianz...dani is just...being normal (the band giggler) Anywayz....for unknown reasons, we started comparing handsizes.. and now everyone knows i haf a SUPERR small hand and an even SHORTER PINKIE!! Shortest in the section leh..i tink mine's shortest in the band also! maybe shortest in the WORLD!! xD then can go break guiness world record for shortest pinkie.. =) Then we played alot of random games like 'Katong Laksa' and 'Di Di Di Di Di, Di Di!' (ohhmyy...i'm sure other ppl know what this is....). Ohya, for katong laksa rite, thnx to dani, we'll always end up with..ka-tong-lak-sa-hot-...(giggles!) this is to show how dedicated dani is to upholding the position of the band giggler! We also talk about ghost stories n NO ONE but dani got scared.. xD ohya, how does the exothermic hand smell? nice? =) Oh, n ya, i tink my sense of humor has just raised by a notch...caz whatever i did, judy n dani will suddenly start laughing =) good good =)

finally, we've got our section blog!

omg, this is going to be my first post on the saxa blog, must really treasure this once-a-lifetime opportunity and make the most out of this post, haha

i don't really blog much, so i've totally no idea what to post about, so let me just briefly go through the birth of the most zai sax blog ever made, haha

at first, i was having random chat with 打你, then suddenly, ernest started a convo and said, "set up a saxa blog leh", than i told 打你 about this, and she's like very on, and said sometime like, "then lets take lots and lots of photos, then can spam!! whee"

and so, we started thinking about what username and password to use, and i asked ernest for ideas, and he suggested stuffs like: saxforlife, etc, thus, we decided it's up to us to name the blog, so we had a mass convo! which included, other then 2 of us, mark, ls, jj, yk

after some off topic chats, we finally got down to business, and many suggestions were given: hcisaxas, best-section!, kingOfSax, HARDCORESAXA, saxGOD, SAXONTHENET, BESTTONE ...

if you all haven't realize, 打你 is the only none male in the convo, and she like saying, "tsk tsk... i didnt see anithing okay!! im innocent!!" "ok ok.. i erm cover my eyes.. you all nudge me when you are done deciding"

anyway, in the end, we decided to use "lets.have.sax" as suggested by me, zai rite?

and the whole line should be: "sax.is.fun.lets.have.sax", which means, playing the saxophone is an enjoyable activity, and as such, we should play the saxophone often
